A Most of the fossils were destroyed during an air raid on Berlin
Fossils of Kentrosaurus discovered in Tanzania were transported to the Natural History Museum in Berlin, Germany.
However, a fire caused by an Allied air raid on Berlin in 1943 destroyed most of the fossils, including the type specimen used as the reference for the species.
Modern reconstructions are based on surviving fossils, prewar records, sketches, and other historical materials.
